Kendrapara District is an administrative district of Odisha state in eastern India. The town of Kendrapara is the district headquarters. Kendrapara District is arranged in the eastern part of the state, and is limited on the north by Bhadrak District, on the east by the Bay of Bengal, on the south by Jagatsinghpur District, on the west by Cuttack District and on the northwest by Jajpur District. Kendrapara is located at 20.50°N 86.42°E.[3] It has an average elevation of 13 m.It is surrounded by Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts and the Bay of Bengal to the east. The river Chitroptala (a branch of the Mahanadi) flows through Kendrapara district. Other rivers in Kendrapara include the Luna, the Karandia, the Gobari, the Brahamani, the Birupa, the Kani, the Hansua, the Baitarani, the Kharasrota, and the Paika. This district has 9 blocks, which are Aul, Derabish, Garadpur, Mahakalapada, Marshaghai, Kendrapara, Rajanagar, Rajkanika, Pattamundai.

Kendrapara is a Municipality city in district of Kendrapara, odisha. The Kendrapara city is divided into 21 wards for which elections are held every 5 years. The Kendrapara Municipality has population of 47,006 of which 24,212 are males while 22,794 are females as per report released by Census India 2011.

More than 75 percent of the total population earns a livelihood from the primary sector.The District is one of the relatively developed Districts particularly in the field of education. There are many important educational institutions in Kendrapara District. Kendrapara Autonomous College, Tulsi Womens’ College, Dinabandhu Sahoo Law College, Marsaghai College, Pattamundai College are the important colleges of the District. . DIET , Balia is one of the training institutes of the District. Kendrapara Govt Polytechnic , Chhata is one of the govt technical institute.

Agriculture

Agriculture is the prime source of income of the district. A little more than 70 percent people dependent on agriculture. Rice, groundnut, green gram, black gram and jute are the main crops grown in the District. However, frequent occurrence of natural calamities viz cyclone, flood and drought has broken the backbone of the people . In order to survive under these conditions, people go for cultivation of their staple food crop rice during rabi in the assured irrigated areas. Jute is the main cash crop of the District, grown since long. Groundnut is an important oil seed crop of the District. Coconut is the important horticulture crop in Kendrapara District.

Tourist Destination

Bhitara Kanika was under the jurisdiction of the erstwhile Kanika Estate. It is covered with deep mangrove forests and saline rivers and was declared a sanctuary on 21.04.1975. It is a world famous place for natural crocodile breeding. It can be approached by road from Rajnagar via Khola Check gate. It is about 30 Kms. from Rajnagar by road. Dangmal can also be approached from Gupti by boat through Patsala river and then Bhitarkanika nala in that order. Kanika Palace is a massive palace constructed by the King of Kanika, Rajendra Narayan Bhanja Deo. It is constructed on an area of 4 acres of land and the height of the structure is 75 feet. It is situated in Rajkanika Block and is around 50 km from the district headquarters. The beauty of the palace is unbelievable. Sri Sri Baladev Jew Temple is one of the historic temples of Orissa, situated at Ichhapur near Kendrapara. The area covered by the structure is 2 Acre 6 Decimile. The total area is divided into 2 parts. It is situated near Aul township. It is an ancient palace spread over 40 acres of land. Other structures like Rajbati, Ranimahal, Ghodashala, Bhandar, Udyan, Pramoda Udyan, Debalaya, Devi mandir are included in the palace.
